1. From the center of town, which is the junction of Route 9 and South Pleasant Street:
When you get to Amherst Center, at the traffic light, with Amherst College off to the right, you will make a left onto South Pleasant Street. That is north. You pass the Town Common on your right.
Continue north on East Pleasant Street. The third traffic light is just a bit past Bertucci. At that traffic light, cross Triangle Street, and continue straight (north) on East Pleasant Street for .3 mile. Pass Mt. Pleasant Street on left. You will see a red reflector and a small red arrow on the left. That is where you bear left in front of big white house on terraced lawn. Purple Gables is 3rd house on the "knoll" and the only one with purple gables. Come to the front porch. You can pull into the driveway to unload your stuff but please park in front and disregard the no parking sign. It doesn't mean you!
2. From the north on Route 2 Take the exit for Amherst/Belchertown onto Route 202 South. Pass the blinking light at junction with route 122, and go 12.7 miles. Start to pay attention now. There will be a blinking light, turn right at the blinking light onto Main Street and pass the Pelham Town Hall. Stay on that road for 6.5 miles (it becomes Main Street in Amherst). Stay on Main Street into the center of Amherst. The Amherst Town Hall, a large red brick castle-like building, will be on your left. At the light at Main and Pleasant Street in the town center, turn right onto East Pleasant Street. Continue north to Bertucci and follow the directions above.
3. Coming from north on Route 91 take the Sunderland exit. Get off the exit and go left but get into right hand lane. Take first right onto Route 116. Go over the blue bridge in Sunderland. Stay on route 116, pass Bub’s Barbeque and at the traffic light, go left into North Amherst Center. Continue straight through the traffic light in the tiny center of North Amherst. After 1 mile, turn right onto East Pleasant street. Travel 1.8 miles on East Pleasant to Pokeberry Ridge (note the red arrow on the right!). Bear right, don’t go up Pokeberry, just bear right onto the little knoll in front of you and the Purple Gables is the second house.
4. From the East on I-90 take exit 4, West Springfield. After tollbooth, follow signs for Holyoke and bear left and then right onto I-91 North. Travel north to exit 19 (Amherst). Go right off 91 onto Route 9 East to Amherst Center. Follow directions #1 from center of town to Purple Gables.
Online maps of the area incorrectly show Purple Gables to be directly on East Pleasant Street. Part of our little B&B's charm is that we're offset from the main road on a quiet knoll.
